YOUR SHOE FIT CHECKLIST
You can use this checklist to make sure that you have taken the right steps in finding the best running shoe for you.
- Get to a running store, where running shoes will be clearly divided by shoe category.
- Consider starting your search by trying shoes that matches your arch:
- high or normal arch: NEUTRAL/CUSHIONED shoe category
- low arch: STABILITY shoe category
- flat foot: MOTION CONTROL shoe category
- Try multiple shoes across different brands.
- Make sure the shoe fits in both length AND width. Never sacrifice one for the other.
- Wiggle your toes to make sure the toe box is snug, not too loose and definitely not cramped.
- Make sure that the heel cup comfortably cradles the back of your foot
- Walk or run around the store. Check for fit and comfort. Make sure there are no ridges, bumps, or lace rows that create hotspots on your foot.
- If needed, ask for special shoe features (rocker bottom, trail shoe, etc) appropriate for your unique circumstances.
- All new running shoes feel plush and comfy, but give them a spin and ask “are these shoes supporting my run?”
